Lower Back Pain Q & A

What causes lower back pain?

Lower back pain has many possible causes: joint irritation, a ruptured disc, or an injury that caused sprained ligaments or strained muscles. Participating in sports can cause an injury to your low back, but so can simple movements such as picking up a fallen object. Poor posture, being overweight or obese, muscular imbalances, and degenerative diseases can also prompt low-back pain. Dr. Dillow is equipped to help patients with back pain caused by any of these issues.

What relief can Active Care Chiropractic and Rehabilitation provide?

Through manipulations and stretching of the spine, Dr. Dillow offers an active way to relieve low back pain. Many patients become less reliant on medication and don’t need bed rest as a result of chiropractic care. Chiropractic care is as effective or more effective than over-the-counter medications, classic medical care, and exercise in relieving pain and returning you to more normal functioning.

What can I expect at a visit?

Dr. Dillow uses a combination of chiropractic adjustment and manual therapy to provide relief from your pain. With manual therapy, the doctor massages and lengthens muscles to resolve tension and tightness that may contribute to your lower back discomfort. He’ll also offer advice about lifestyle habits, including physical activity and nutrition, to prevent low back pain from recurring.

What if my low back pain is from a herniated disc?

If Dr. Dillow determines a herniated disc is the cause of your low back pain, he may treat you with spinal decompression therapy, which uses special equipment to apply gentle pressure along your spine. It creates space between your vertebrae and relieves pressure on the nerve that’s causing your pain. You’ll find the therapy quite comfortable, as you lie on a treatment table and the machine does its work.
